Union Printed — Essential for Labor-Backed Measures

MCI has been a union print shop since 1984. If your ballot initiative relates to minimum wage, prevailing wage, workplace safety, or public employee issues, the union bug on your petition sheets and campaign materials signals to labor organizers and union households that your committee means it.

AFL-CIO, SEIU, IBEW, Teamsters, and other Missouri labor organizations often require the union bug before endorsing a campaign or providing volunteer support. National online printers can't put a union bug on your materials. We can — at no extra charge.

Missouri Ballot Initiative Disclaimer Requirements

Missouri requires all printed ballot initiative materials to include a “paid for by” disclaimer identifying the sponsoring committee. The disclaimer must include the full legal name of the committee and its mailing address as registered with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

Petition sheets have additional format requirements set by the Missouri Secretary of State. Circulator information must appear on each sheet. Materials that solicit votes for or against a ballot measure are subject to the same disclaimer rules as candidate campaigns. For a full breakdown of Missouri and federal disclosure requirements, see our political mail disclaimer rules guide.

Not sure your disclaimer is correct? Call us at (314) 849-7228 before your job goes to press. We handle Missouri ballot committee materials every election cycle and can flag common disclaimer errors.

Ballot Initiative Printing FAQs

What ballot initiative printing does a Missouri committee need?

Missouri ballot initiative committees typically need materials across three phases. In the petition phase: printed petition sheets (legal-sized, formatted to Missouri Secretary of State requirements), cover pages, volunteer instruction sheets, and clipboards or binders. In the persuasion phase: direct mail postcards and letters, door hangers, and yard signs. In the GOTV phase: last-mile postcards, phone banking scripts, and poll worker materials. The specific mix depends on your initiative type, budget, and signature-gathering strategy.

What are Missouri Ethics Commission requirements for ballot committee materials?

Missouri requires a "paid for by" disclaimer identifying the sponsoring committee on all printed campaign materials, including petition literature. The disclaimer must include the full legal name of the committee and its mailing address. For ballot measures, the committee must be registered with the Missouri Ethics Commission before spending money on materials. We are familiar with Missouri disclaimer requirements and can help ensure your petition and campaign materials are compliant before they go to press.

Do ballot initiative materials need to be union printed in Missouri?

There is no legal requirement for union printing in Missouri. However, if your ballot initiative is related to labor, wages, workplace safety, or public employee issues — or if you are seeking endorsements from AFL-CIO, SEIU, IBEW, Teamsters, or other labor organizations — union-printed materials with the union bug are strongly preferred. Some labor organizations require it. MCI has been a union print shop since 1984; the union bug appears on every job we produce at no extra charge.

How should Missouri petition sheets be printed?

Missouri petition sheets must follow the format prescribed by the Secretary of State. Generally, sheets are printed on 8.5x14 legal-size paper, with the full initiative text printed on the back or attached, and signature lines on the front. Each sheet requires the printed name of the circulator. We print petition sheets to your specifications and can produce them quickly so your volunteers are never waiting on materials. Call (314) 849-7228 and we can walk you through the print specifications for your initiative type.

How much does ballot initiative printing cost?

Pricing depends on quantity and material type. Petition sheets typically run $0.08–$0.15 per sheet on legal stock. Direct mail postcards for persuasion campaigns average $0.35–$0.55 per piece including printing and postage. Yard signs (18x24 corrugated, double-sided) start around $1.50–$3.00 per sign at moderate quantities. Rush orders carry a premium. We provide detailed quotes within a few hours — call (314) 849-7228 or submit a request online.

What is the timeline for ballot initiative printing in 2026?

For Missouri's 2026 petition cycle, signature gathering typically runs through late spring to meet summer qualification deadlines. Order petition packets by late April or early May. If your measure qualifies for the November 3, 2026 general election, persuasion mail should begin in August with GOTV materials in October. Rush service is available for tight deadlines: petition sheets in 48 hours, direct mail in 72 hours for emergencies. Early ordering avoids rush fees and ensures availability.

Can you ship petition materials to multiple counties across Missouri?

Yes. We coordinate multi-location shipping to petition coordinators, field offices, and volunteer hubs across Missouri. For direct mail campaigns, we handle multi-drop postal coordination to reach voters in specific Missouri counties or congressional districts. We have been shipping campaign materials statewide since 1984 and can work with your field director on distribution logistics.

Can MCI print materials for both sides of a ballot initiative?

Yes. We print for the sponsoring committee and the opposition committee independently. Each engagement is handled confidentially. We do not share client lists or committee information between competing campaigns. Both committees receive the same quality, service, and union-printed materials.
